Stapeley & Rorrington (Middle distance)
Stapeley and Rorrington Hill and Common are a saddle back shaped hill in South West Shropshire. The hill is an historically sacred site, home to Mitchell’s Fold stone circle. On the common land stands the Cow Stone, a single standing stone or menhir.

Near the summit you will also find two Bronze Age cairns with the hill rising to 403 metres. Around the summit are various crags and rock features before we move lower down to valleys and shapes formed from the ice age.
In the valley bottoms are interesting shallow drainage channels along with past evidence of mining activities, which have formed a challenging orienteering landscape.
This is one area where you park in Wales and walk the short distance to the competition area in England.

Terrain :
Open grazed hilltop grassland and heath. Popular with walkers. Mostly fast runnable, grass with some areas of bracken and gorse and marshy areas in the valley. Small rock features plus a bronze age stone circle, ruined earthwalls wet and dry ditches , lots of tracks and small paths. (Sheep and cattle graze the area so any dogs must be kept on a lead under control) Spectacular , panoramic views of the Shropshire Hills and towards the distant Welsh mountains. Expect to see red kites and hear skylarks.

It featured in SinS 2021 when it was used for the Midland Championships – the Routegadget is here. This event uses the Southern half of the SINS 2021 Peter Jones map with minor updates. Scale 1:10000
