SINS Day 3 Monday 26th May 2025

SINS Day 3 Monday 26th May 2025

The full details as at Thursday 22nd May 2025, including a summary of changes since the previous version, are here. If any last minute amendments are needed, they will be flagged here.

Start times are now available on the Fabian4 website here.

Titterstone Clee Hill

Titterstone Clee Hill is one of the highest points in Shropshire and is equally fascinating to geologists, historiand, bird lovers and orienteers alike. Although much of it is open rough moorland (mainly grass with areas of bracken, tussocks and marsh) it has been quarried and mined for millennia. The resulting features, combined with the relative absence of paths, offer a real orienteering challenge.

Race starts will be between 10:30am and 13.30pm.

The area was last used in November 2019 – link to the Routegadget for that event.

Podium Catering and Compass Point will be in attendance.

Preliminary course and start/finish information (subject to change):

Only the Black and Brown courses will go over the hill. Therefore most courses will avoid the long climb(s) and will instead be focused on the relatively flat areas of Clee Hill Common. The common was once the home to many small (and tiny) coal mines which have left a lot of pits, spurs and other contour detail which should provide a good challenge for your orienteering skills.

Parking will be at Clee Hill Quarry SY8 3QA.

There will be a 500m walk (slightly uphill) from the car park to Start, and 500m back from Finish.

If you’d like to visit the hilltop after your run, it’s a 2.5km walk from assembly.  Alternatively, you can drive 2km west along the A4117, turn right (north) at the sign for Titterstone Clee Summit, and drive another 3km up Dhustone Lane to the hilltop car park. Most of the lane is single-track so can be tricky for large vehicles.

Information for newcomers

If you have little or no experience of orienteering we recommend that you choose one of the following courses (in order of increasing difficulty): White, Yellow, Orange or Light Green. These are at the bottom of the list of options in the drop-down box for the “Long” event on the entry form. For more information about colour-coded courses and what they mean please go to https://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/newcomers_guide

If a junior is entering accompanied by an adult, or a group is entering which will be orienteering together, enter one name and pay one fee. In the “special request” box on the entry form inform us of the names of the other members of the pair/group.

If you have any questions please use the contact form.
